A homework for Ethics--Write a dilema。
It's a fable story yet might happen at anytime for anyone who work in the tax office.
What will u do if u were this tax collector?
To help Bella,or to keep the tax payer's information confidential?
That's not a problem if what u've done would be discoverd by other ppl.
But what if no one knows?
To do, or not to do?
What's ur choice?

A Tax Collector’s Dilema
When graduated from university four years ago, I got a job of a tax collector in the local taxation office. Taxpayers come to declare tax every month. And my job was to examine every data taxpayers fill in the tax forms, not only the monthly income but also the cost and expenses in financial statement. In the mean time, most of my classmates started their career doing international trade business.
One day, Bella, my former roommate gave me a call saying she was doing a very big deal with an American company. I felt really happy for her. Then she told me there’s another company (let’s just name it ABC Co.) who also tried every effort to sell the same goods to this American customer. Bella’s company wanted to know how much ABC Co. would quote for each item to the customer and what’s their unit cost.
ABC Co. was our taxpayer so Bella begged me to do her a favor.
I was technically able to check their financial statement and tell Bella what she wanted to know. And nobody would discover whether or not I give away the business information of ABC co.’s without any tax record changed.
Yet as a tax collector and a civil servant, it’s my responsibility to keep every taxpayer’s information confidential.
But Bella said if her company quote higher than their rival did they would definitely lose this business and her first job might end for this failure.
What should I do?
